Welcome to the GAB forum! Before you post here, make sure to read this so you understand the rules and how to use this forum properly.
What's GAB stand for?
GAB stands for Goods And Bads, hence me, the Gab Fairy. Goods and Bads are a style of constructive criticism the captain learned through a college course on creative writing and several years in a magic club. Thus, it's being used here to help make players' events better by showing them what they did well and what they could've done better.
Rules
- The player submitting their event for criticism is not allowed to reply. Replying may lead to being defensive, and the last thing this forum is supposed to be is a place where arguments are born. Players will instead read the criticism and take it into account.
- The fairy will not use like language. "Like" doesn't tell the player much of anything. Instead, explain what you thought worked well and why. "I think this aspect worked because of this." "I think this aspect didn't work because of this." Framing it like that is ten times more useful to the player than "I liked this but I didn't like this."
- Give concrete suggestions of revision. If you think something should be revised, explain why, and then explain how. Or give more than one suggestion of how. It's more difficult to improve if one isn't given a direction to go in first.
- Start with the good, end with the bad. There's a reason it's called Goods and Bads, not Bads and Goods. Start with what worked, and then move on to what didn't. Try to keep an even balance of the two if you can.
- Cite specific examples. If you can target a specific line of dialogue that did or didn't work, and you can use Discord to find it, do so. The more specific you can be, the better!
- Be respectful. This should be obvious, but it still needs to be said. Don't be a jerk to other players or their characters, and don't put someone else down to try to push someone else up.
- Consider funnel theory. The funnel theory is that bigger picture things feed into smaller picture things. Don't nitpick at the little things, essentially.
How to Get GAB
- Submit your event using the form below on your normal account. Fill it in as best as you can.
- Wait for criticism. People will submit it as they feel comfortable.
- Take note of posts Gab makes. (I suggest keeping a note on Evernote to keep track of revision suggestions.)
How to Give GAB
- Log onto the Gab Fairy using credentials given either directly from the captain or through the haxxors notebook.
- Follow the rules above and fill out the form below.
- Post in the thread for the event, and don't mention that you've done so in order to keep anonymity, which is the whole point of this account.
